What is it that turns otherwise calm, collected and confident individuals into a mass of nerves and a quivering wreck at the thoughts of a Driving Test?Is it Fear of Failure?Is it Fear of Ridicule?Is it Fear of Losing a Job?Is it Fear of not getting the job in the First Place?Is it Fear of ever increasing Insurance Premiums?Is it fear of the Unknown?Is it Fear of Losing Self Esteem?Is it Fear of what your Best Friends will say?Is it Fear of the Examiner?Is it Fear of appearing Worthless?All of the above are very real emotions in the Lead up to a Driving Test but are they justified? I think not! They represent a cumulative file of clutter and confusion in your head which can, with a little effort be removed without you going into Rehab! Actually quite a LOT OF EFFORT! Oh yes I know what you are saying …it's alright for him he doesn't have to sit the Driving Test again!Well we've all been there and come out the other side. Some of us have had to go through the torture more than once and if you are one of those then take heart from the fact that life does go on after a Driving Test Failure, maybe not the same day, maybe not the day after, but soon after.What you can do however is to stack the cards in your favour by preparing well with a qualified Instructor who should have been teaching you skills for life at the outset which far outweigh the importance of what is required to pass the Driving Test. For sure the Driving Test is a stepping stone but it's the first stone in crossing the river and you will have to learn how to keep your balance And your confidence if you are to get to the other side without getting soaked!You need to start with all the basic skills and be confident with them before you contemplate sitting the Driving Test. Here is the skills set that could be renamed "The Directors 'Cut and forms a nucleus of what is required. Yes it's a long list! Learning to drive is a long process…it's not like boiling an egg where it's all over bar the shouting in four minutes!These include:-1. Stopping and Starting.2. Moving off correctly.3. Observation.4. Traffic Light Sequences.5. Positioning.6. Pedestrians.7. Local and Permanent Hazards.8. Reversing.9. In Car controls and Control.10. Technical Checks.11. Rules of the Road.12. Driving Test Protocols.13. Local Area Knowledge.14. Ability to make Progress.15. Driver Courtesy.16. Defective Driver Recognition.Many of the above skills are not instinctive but have to be learnt under the watchful eye of a Trained and experienced Professional. It is essential to embrace the need for Professional Lessons before you prepare for your Driving Test .There is absolutely no place for swanning around in your own car for months on end, for that's what it is… swanning, and then realising that all is not well several weeks from your driving test!
