What You Need To Know About Home Based Business Auto Insurance

Author : Jon Butt
When purchasing home based business insurance, auto insurance should not be overlooked, nor should you assume your personal car insurance is sufficient as home based business auto insurance. Even if it is, it's important to know how, when, and to what extent it applies to your home business.Depending on your business activities, a commercial home based business auto insurance policy may be necessary, particularly if you have employees. For the most part, both personal and commercial car insurance are the same with regard to the main types of coverage, but finding the cheapest car insurance rates for either means pinning down your specific needs.Personal Or Commercial Coverage? For the home based business, home based business auto insurance may not be necessary, and a personal auto insurance policy might be sufficient. It is important, in that case, that the policyholder inform his or her auto insurance company that the personal auto is sometimes used in business, and, should the vehicle be in an accident or be damaged, it is essential that the claim state the vehicle was being used for business at that time. The auto insurance provider may require commercial auto insurance, however, particularly if your home based business has employees that use owned or leased company vehicles or personal vehicles for business purposes.Choose A Well Rated Vehicle To Keep Premiums DownCar insurance for both commercial and personal vehicle use are affected by the choice of vehicle. If used more for business than for the family car, the owner of a home business should choose an auto that carries one of the cheapest car rates because, in the eyes of auto insurance companies, it is less expensive to buy or repair, is stolen less often, or has more standard safety and security equipment.Listings of the cheapest car rates can be found at state insurance agency websites.Jon Butt publishes http://www.which-car-insurance.com A free resource site devoted to advising all on the car, motor and auto insurance facts you need to know, the different types, cover levels, the top car insurance companies, how to buy wisely online or through local brokers. Off Road Vehicle Vibration Power LED Lights

Author : Lance Winslow
The DARPA 2005 Challenge is a once in a lifetime chance for robotic engineers, companies and engineers to show their stuff. What is learned during such contests probably saves the Department of Defense hundreds of millions in Research and Development costs. To the taxpayers this is exceptional news indeed.Recently I had a conversation with one of the teams, which is poised to win this years contest, although many would agree upon reviewing all these teams that they are all winners, as they bring to the table the future of robotics a frontier, which will be conquered indeed. This team told me that since they were using Off-The-Shelf Technology for their platform vehicle, meaning it was your basic SUV, that they were not sure if it had enough of a gas tank to make the whole trip. In fact since the speeds would be around 20-25 miles per hour over rugged terrain and since the vehicle would be running the modified electrical system full blast, with two alternators, RV style air-conditioning system and computer processors that it would be a gas hog? And you thought you paid a lot for gasoline? In any case this unmanned ground vehicles or UGV would be very inefficient indeed.I propose that to over come these issues and not just on DARPA Challenge 2005 vehicles but on all off road vehicles that we use the vibrational energy to power up LED headlights. The bumps in the road can power up the headlights using electromagnetic induction technology to charge a capacitor instead of the headlights working off a battery. Currently there are some nifty micro-flashlights being used which you can buy which use a similar technique and are available thanks to the Everlite Flashlight technology research lab. These smaller flashlights work by shaking them for about thirty seconds and shine for about 6 minutes and they shine quite bright since they use a very bright LED light. Here is a link to this home use flashlight:http://www.modernoutpost.com/gear/details/ee_shakelight.htmlHere is a quick movie you can watch online to see how this technology works.http://www.modernoutpost.com/gear/movies/ee_forever.MPGIf these lights get too dim from too smooth of a road, yah, we wish, then the system would revert back to the battery, but only if and when this occurs. By saving fuel we can extend the range and perhaps these vehicles can go the full 200-mile course on a single tank of gas. Perhaps this is a good way to save fuel and win the 2-million dollar DARPA Grand Challenge Prize Money? Think on this and God's Speed.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. Mobile Car Wash Complaints

Author : Lance Winslow
Everyone knows that car washes often steal things out of customer's cars. Actually it is not the car wash owner or the company, but rather the low end ethical lacking employee, looking to make some money on the side by stealing. Yet in mobile car washing generally the owner or crew chief is right there the whole time and most customers are regular customers and thus there is not the issue of theft. Yet so many start-up mobile car wash entrepreneurs ask; How do you deal with a client complaints or insinuation of damage by your employee? The correct answer is that this rarely happens. If or when it does it is usually with only first time or brand new customers. They might not understand mobile car washes are not like a full service fixed site carwash. Mobile car washes have no reason to steal, as they make a lot of money servicing customers weekly. Even basic services of $10 times 52 weeks per year is $520.00 without any detailing or waxing or add on services. Let's face it there is nothing in someone's car worth losing that kind of money or the ten people they might tell if one did do such a thing. 10 X $520 = $5,200.00. No way.Even the crew chief or driver of the mobile car wash who maybe up to 12% commission knows this, as 12% of $5,200.00 is $624.00 out of their pay, plus he could lose his job. You see? At carwashes a car wash employee makes what $8.00 an hour max? If he steals something or steals quarters out of an ashtray, then he keeps it and could care less about the customers or his job for that matter, he can get a new job easily. And most car washes say they are not responsible for lost or stolen items as a disclaimer. At fixed site Car washes the customers, well only about 15% are regular customers, yet for a mobile car wash business their customer base is not less than 85% repeat and generally over 90% you see. Once this is explained to the customer they simmer down. If a customer tells us they will call the BBB, we tell them to find another service to wash their cars, which has such low prices and great quality, timely service and professionalism. This maybe your best option if you own a mobile car wash. In actuality you might wish to realize that your customers do not use the BBB and they are regulars and tell their friends. Mobile Car Washes survive on reputation, regular service and quality, not ridiculous, spotty and worthless referrals from the BBB.If a customer is a troublemaker, well there are in Los Angeles for instance 2.2 cars per person and 16.5 million people, not so concerned about accusations really. You do not need those types of customers, you want steady, repeat customers, whose checks do not bounce, whose credit cards are good and who refer customers. You do not want sniveling wackos or Prozac drugy weirdoes. Let Hollywood deal with them, something to think on.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. 2006 New Car Highlights

Author : Matthew Keegan
A new model year brings with it all new cars and the chance for automakers to bring fresh customers into their showrooms in the hopes that some will be persuaded to purchase the new car or at the very least switch to a new brand. The following are some the newest models being touted. Will any of them grab your attention? Your local dealers certainly hope so!Chevrolet HHR – Take one look at the HHR and you may think: this car looks awfully like Chrysler's PT Cruiser. With that particular assessment, you are correct. Still, the car swiped its styling cues from the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban, but the HHR – Heritage High Top – will compete directly with the PT Cruiser as it does everything the PT Cruiser does and a bit more: you can fit an 8 foot ladder inside the vehicle.Honda Ridgeline – It has taken some time, but Honda has entered the pick up truck fray with its medium body Ridgeline. Standard four wheel drive, four doors, and a five foot bed with a trunk inside of the floor of the bed are some of the features that sets the Ridgeline apart from the competition. The Ridgeline comes equipped with a 3.5L all aluminum V6 engine and a 5 speed automatic transmission.Hyundai Azera – Developed to compete against the likes of the Toyota Avalon, the Azera comes equipped with a 3.8L all aluminum V6 engine. The five passenger Azera replaces the luxurious XG350.Jeep Commander – Trail rated fun just got a bit finer with the Commander, the largest Jeep yet with seating for seven passengers. Based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee's frame, the Commander comes with three engine choices including a 3.7L V6, a 4.7L SOHC V8; and a 5.7 Hemi V8 that automatically shuts down four of the cylinders when not needed.Lincoln Mark LT – Ford's luxury division gets it own version of the famous Ford F-150 line of pick up trucks. Available as a rear or four wheel drive vehicle, the Mark is a five passenger truck with ebony wood, leather seating, and a long list of luxury features. Standard engine is a Triton 5.4L V8.Mercury Milan – Based on the Mazda 6 platform, the Milan is a five passenger sedan that comes equipped with either a 2.3 I4 or 3.0L V6 engine. Related cars include the Ford Fusion and the upscale Lincoln Zephyr.Pontiac Solstice – GM says they created the Solstice to infuse a bit of fun in the Pontiac line up. The two seat rag top Solstice is meant to compete against the wildly famous Mazda Miata and with rear wheel drive, a pair of potent four cylinders to choose from, and priced starting around $20,000 the Solstice at least stands a chance to take away sales from the Miata. Many other models have been revamped for 2006 including the Honda Civic, Ford Explorer, Lexus IS, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Toyota Avalon and the Chevrolet Impala. Regardless of which model you choose, you are in the commander's seat as the competition continues to heat up and great deals on new vehicles continue to flow.Matthew Keegan is The Article Writer who writes on just about any and every issue imaginable. Car Washing 202 Case Study in Case Studies

Author : Lance Winslow
So often those who do industry analysis and are considered self-proclaimed consultants assist companies in attaining the interest of an Investment Banker or help them get funding from a Venture Capitalist company. Recently I had a consulting firm contact me from the UK and one of the young associates in the firm needed information on the car wash industry for a client. They were doing industry analysis and wanted to make sure they had all their facts and figures straight. Yet the questions they asked were irrelevant to the decision of whether to proceed in the United States with a car wash chain or large network of carwashes. They asked what the percentages were of rollover carwashes, conveyor carwashes and coin-op carwashes. You see many over seas companies are eyeing the car and truck washing industry in the US after some huge mergers in the industry in the EU. Additionally one of the case study work projects at Harvard for Business Students is to review a fictitious company, which is now a real company, which is to consolidate a few carwashes in regional markets and then expand across the country. In any case, to bring you up on the current trends in the industry read this first:http://www.carwash.com/news.asp?mode=4&N_ID=57514Now then, one doing real research must be careful on analyst's reports. A company taking advice should also ask themselves; who is the analyst? The reason I say this is after reading all the industry surveys and analyst reports available in the carwash industry, I find them flawed. If they have not been to every city in the country like I have, stood outside carwashes and counted cars, talked with customers post carwash experience, etc. like I have, I would not trust their data? Where did they get the data; from equipment suppliers? Oh I bet that is quite impartial indeed? Did they get such data from industry surveys, as operators embellish on those you know that? IRS? People skim cash at car washes? Consultants? Well they are selling something? So when the analyst contacted me and asked me the percentages of the three types of carwashes, the question was flawed and the answer is irrelevant. In fact when asked if those were the major types of carwashes in the United States; I said; "No I disagree that those are the main types." You see, conveyors are used in many types of carwashes including some of the roll-overs, which are being displaced by the types of "No-Touch Car Wash Systems," which also often have conveyors in them. What about Mobile Wash Units? The mobile washing industry in some cities are washing in some markets 1/3 of all the cars, take Las Vegas market for instance? So when you read an analyst report do so with your skeptical, ironic N400 brain wave in full swing, because so often analysts are full of it and their data is skewed, as it contains a large amount of BS and incorrect original assumptions. Think on this when studying the car wash industry.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. Government Vehicles and Usage Efficiency

Author : Lance Winslow
Have you ever happened by a government building in the evening or during the weekend and see all the government four door cars, vans and pick-ups all lined up out front? Ever thought what a waste that is; that is to say all those vehicles sitting all night every night and all weekend long doing nothing? The GSA spends billions on passenger vehicles every year via our tax dollars, they use them for various agencies surface transportation needs and yes they fill them up with $3.00 plus a gallon gas on the taxpayers money too. They run all these vehicles about 75,000 miles and then sell them at auction. They should be running them to 125,000 miles to save taxpayers monies and they should be doing something positive with them on those weekends and evenings. There are so many poor people that need transportation on the weekends, but cannot afford a car, the payments and insurance considering they are on low-fixed incomes and they only need a car every once in a while.I propose a system that these vehicles be used on the weekends and be returned when done, at the same level of fuel. During the Hurricane Katrina 4700 government vehicles, other than all those buses were flooded and ruined. Nearly 5000 vehicles lent to folks could have helped evacuate that city prior to the Hurricane. At an average of four people each that is nearly 20,000 additional people who could have left, before havoc ensued?Additionally if a contract was awarded to a small business they could facilitate these cars being rented or borrowed to those in need or who were willing to rent vehicles? What about a pizza deliver company that needs some extra cars on Fridays and Saturdays, but cannot afford to go out and buy six cars only to use for their two peak evenings each week? If we will use our resources better, the efficiency of our economic prosperity will be better served. Think on this.Lance Winslow - Online Think Tank forum board. Where To Find a Cheap Used Car?

Author : Terje Ellingsen
If you want to buy a cheap used car, the smartest thing you can do is to invest an effort of legwork upfront. There are recommended auto guides online and you should start with one of these. These list or catalogs will give you an idea of what the used vehicle you are interested in is worth on the market. This could also be supplied with Kelly's blue book which is the best known source of vehicle values. It is essential that you do these preparation before you even consider to purchase a cheap used auto. When you know the value or market price of the auto you want to purchase you can
either go to a dealership or online
to check the deals and eventually purchase your used car. If you go on the internet, which is the easiest way to do it, you should go to recommended used car dealers online only, check out their offers and of course the prices for the auto make and model you want. It is always smart to go to more than one recommended website, then you can get a better feeling about how the used car market is and how much the vehicle make and model you're looking for is going for.Collect information and comparison quotes from three to five used car dealers on the web. You can now start to negotiate with them and you can do it from then comfort of your home instead of running from dealership to dealership all over town.As long as you know what you want, your car financing is ok and that you have other car dealers to fall back to if you not are pleased with the offers you receive from one particular dealer - you are in the best thinkable negotiation position. You are able to steer away from persuasion and pressure from aggressive sales persons - either you accept an offer or you go to the competitor; the car dealers know this and they have to take you seriously. The internet has made the auto purchasing process easy and streamlined and you can't have access to more purchase relevant information than the internet can provide you. And all this can be done from your recliner in your own home.Terje Brooks Ellingsen is a writer and internet publisher. He runs the website cheap-used-cars.w-eland.com. Terje gives advice and helps people with automotive issues like finding cheap car dealers online and car financing on the internet.

Replacement Auto Parts Where to Find Them

Author : Matthew Keegan
When needing a replacement part for you car, where do you shop? Like many motorists you may head down to the big box retailer for all of your needs. A good choice both for value and for selection. Still, mostly any retailer is limited as to what they can stock. This especially holds true if you drive a rare or uncommon vehicle. Try finding a window regulator for your '69 Torino at the parts store; they'll get it for you but it will have to be back ordered. So, where should you shop? That's up to you, but let's goes over the options that you have. The Salvage Yard. Let's admit it: there isn't anything wrong with going to the junkyard to find the part you need. My '78 VW Rabbit's window handle broke and I snagged one off of a junker for just a few bucks. Still, if you are looking for a radiator, engine, exhaust stuff, or anything else that actually runs, you risk that the part will fail soon after you place it in your car. Naturally, the price you pay through the junkyard should be the lowest price going.Your Dealer. On the other side of the spectrum is your car dealer. If they don't have it in stock, they can get if for you. Service with a smile and a price that will make you frown! Yes, you will pay dearly for some parts, as middleman mark ups kick in.Your Retail Store. Retail auto supply chains typically have the broadest selection and the lowest prices of any of the brick and mortar retailers. Your best option for a good buy is when something is on sale; stock items will cost you the prevailing retail rate, but that is the price you pay for convenience. Overhead [buildings, labor] is high even with most national retailers.Shop Online. Wholesale providers of automobile replacement parts and accessories are springing up all over the internet. Some stores are good, some are not. What to look for: available customer service agents; a toll free number where you can call someone to talk with directly; a store that never closes and has a secured payment site; and clearly understood shipment, payment, and return policies. Generally, an online retailer should be a great option as low overhead and purchasing directly from the manufacturer is what sets these wholesalers apart from the rest. Still, do your homework and make sure that the site is what it says it is.One special warning: the growth of the counterfeit parts industry is causing fits for retailers and consumers. If you suspect that you have purchased a bogus part, return it to the retailer for a full return. One more good reason to learn what a company's return policy is before you do business with them.In all, shopping for parts is easier today, thanks to the internet. From the ease of your computer you can compare prices, service, shipping options, warranties, and more. The consumer is the winner and retailers are keeping prices low in order to bring in additional business.Copyright 2005 -- Matt Keegan is a contributing writer for the Auto Parts Warehouse, a wholesaler of fine Ford parts and Toyota parts.

Who Needs a License?

Author : Soubanh Louangvilay
Sixteen is the age where someone finally gets a car, but before someone can drive, they need to obtain a state issued drivers license. However, it appears in the metro Atlanta area, this requirement to drive is becoming useless. Between August and October, there have been several accidents, some minor and some extensive, caused by non-licensed drivers according to the information gathered from several metro Atlanta police reports. Is it difficulty to obtain a state issued license? It must be due to the large amount of people driving without license. According to the metro Atlanta police reports, they usually are the cause of the accident, and very rare they would be the victim of the accident. In either case, the person charged with no license faces major consequences, so why not go ahead and get a license to reduce any charges if an accident should occur. An example is Sergio Estrada, resident of Alpharetta, GA, who failed to yield and would of only received a violation for failing to yield, however, officers discovered he had no licensed and charged him with not having a license and his fines increased. Juan Quivoz is another example of not having a license. Quivoz, who was already suspected of a hit-and-run, was charged for not having a legal license. If someone does not have a license or is unable to get one legally, why not just let someone drive you around? According to the reports, the majority of these non-licensed drivers are low-income Hispanic men. Many people, especially due to Atlanta's high living cost, have to work really hard for low paying jobs. Which means they are not legal residents who cannot obtain a license legally. This stands in the way to obtain one, however, if someone has to put food on the table, they probably will do without thinking of repercussions such as driving to work without a license. Many people mean no harm and just want to be able to commute from one place to another, however, accidents do occur.Though driving unlicensed is dangerous to you, it puts other drivers as risk, too. Someone unlicensed might not know all the traffic laws as well as someone who does have a license, which may increase the number of accidents on the interstate. For instance, Salvador Perez-Lopez of Forest Park, struck another vehicle on its side, and the other driver suffered from chest and back pain. Perez-Lopez was cited for no license and charged heavily.Increased accident rates, the potential to put others at risk, and injuring others seems too dangerous to not get a license.

The Benefits of Aftermarket Auto Lights - From Euro Tail Lights to Projector Headlights

Author : Melanie Nathan
The average driver isn't aware that there are more stylish and advanced alternatives available to replace the OEM factory lights their vehicles came with. Thanks to the Aftermarket Accessory industry and products like euro tail lights and projector headlights we no longer have to put up with the dull "yellowish" headlights or generic "red & orange" tail lights we're so used to. Aftermarket lighting will not only improve ones overall night driving experience but also offers a whole new look that can set a ride apart from all the rest. Most aftermarket lights are an easy install that can be done by almost anyone with a little mechanical knowledge and are manufactured to comply with current DOT/SAE standards making them a true "no hassle" upgrade.Euro tail lights (also commonly referred to as clear tail lights, euro lights and altezza lights) are one of the most popular aftermarket lighting upgrades simply for their durability, ease of install and their ability to dramatically (and inexpensively) change the look of a vehicle. They are now available for most makes and models including; Acura Integra, Cadillac Escalade, Ford Escape, Ford Explorer, Chevy Malibu, Honda Accord, Chevy Colorado/Canyon and Toyota 4Runner.Projector Headlights (also referred to as Halo Headlights or Angel Eyes) are lights that "project" therefore they are brighter and can project a beam in front of the vehicle farther than the factory headlights ever could. Diamond-Cut headlights are also bright but they offer a little more in the style department being that the inside of the light is carved somewhat like a diamond thereby offering the ability for the light to shine off multiple surfaces. Couple these headlights with aftermarket euro or LED (Light Emitting Diode) tail lights and you'll really light up the night sky!And unlike many modifications, with most aftermarket lighting, there is no cutting, painting or drilling involved. You basically unscrew and "pop" out the factory light and screw the aftermarket one in place. Most lights will utilize the existing factory bulbs but since the lens on an aftermarket light is clear… the bulbs will appear much brighter and therefore are more visible offering increased safety while driving at night. Thanks to innovative companies like In.ProCarWear, APC and TYC we now have thousands of quality replacement lighting products for vehicles to choose from including; euro tail lights, LED tail lights, projector and diamond-cut headlights, HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting kits, fog lights, clear corner lenses, side marker lights, sealed beam headlights, front and rear bumper lights, over cab running lights, park lights, signal lights (the list goes on!) which are all designed for a safer, more stylish ride.Melanie Nathan is the webmaster and co-owner of Coolights.com. tail lights, a set of LED
taillights, or some bright new headlights,

Cars and Tools Can Coexist in the Garage Together

Author : Denton Lesslie
"I have to many tools to keep my car in the garage."I have one word. ORGANIZE!There are many options in getting your stuff together. I am always a
proponent of a tool bench. You will then have space for hand tools
(hammers, screw drivers, wrenches) on a pegboard and then below the
workspace you have room to store the large stuff (pressure washer,
shop vac, compressor). Above the pegboard you can have shelves to
house the medium tools (circular saw, drills, air tools). Then you have all those tools in an area that takes up about 2-3 feet
from the wall. They are in one place, so you always go to one place for
those. Shelving is an option. A three or for tier shelf can free up tons of
bulky storage items in the garage.Lets say that you have a work bench that is 3 feet deep and 7 feet long
and a shelf system that is about the same dimensions. That is about 147
square feet of storage space that is in a space of 42 square feet of floor
space. That is a huge savings, considering that the normal minivan
takes up about 32 square feet (8' x4'). What are you going to do with the
extra 67 square feet of space? Another car, a larger project, more tools
(yeah!), or a couch and TV.Just a few options.Denton Lesslie is the president of greathomeimprovements.com and a consultant for Department of

There are many reasons why a car overheats; one could be the lack of water and coolant in the cooling system. Furthermore, there could be some damages to the cooling system parts like the radiator, the water pump and the gaskets. If your engine fails to start, there could be something wrong with the ignition system. The starter could be damaged and needs to be replaced. Also, check the fuel filter. Even when not specified in your manual, you need to replace the fuel filter often, not just clean it, to ensure that your engine is getting clean fuel for combustion. This further ensures your vehicle's maximum performance.Brake failure. If your brake fails to hold and you hear screeching sound, better go to a mechanic immediately and have your brake checked. Faulty brakes are among the major causes of car accidents so don't wait for another day to go to a repair shop. Moreover, check your tires and wheels.Rust and Corrosion. 5 Steps to A Great Rental Car Experience

Author : John Mancini
There are times in one's life when the use of rental cars cannot be avoided. When someone plows into you at an intersection, when you are taking a 2-day trip and your compact car just does not have enough room to stretch out, these are times when you are happy that there are rental cars at your disposal. Before you rent that car, though, you should know some things about the process.1- The first step involved in obtaining a rental car is to do research on the companies in your local area. There are a number of nation wide companies and more than likely local companies to choose from when conducting your research. Try to narrow them down to three or four companies that are closest to either your pick up location or your destination.2- You will want to ask about procedures that may be required by the rental company. Many companies require that the car be fueled up before its return, if this is not done, they will charge you extra for it. It may also be in your best interest to ask what the fee would be if the car is needed for longer than expected as well as what the rate is for late drop off.3- If you have personal auto insurance, call your agent to see if you are insured with a rental car as well. This will allow you to save money by turning down the insurance offered by the rental company at the time of vehicle pick up.4- Finally, you have chosen the company and the car, its time to pick it up. Make sure that you have the paper work that you will need. Most companies will require you to show your drivers license, be sure to have it. Also, your proof of auto insurance, if you will be turning their insurance down. A major credit card is necessary; if you are not using cash to rent your car, do not count on them taking a check.5- Be sure to read the contract and ask questions about anything that you do not understand. It's better to take sometime at the counter or on the phone to pin down the details, than to think you got it and have to deal with the company in the event of an accident. Ask questions!John Mancini writes about rental cars online and offline. You can read more about national car rental and alamo car rental on his websites.

Tips On Creating A Personalized Show Board - Part 1

Author : Anthony Palmieri
Over the years I have learned a lot about how car owners add that personal touch to their car and I have to thank the many owners that helped me to better understand the desires of these enthusiasts. The car enthusiast is a proud group that often has many unique ideas that would differentiate their car, but they may not be sure how to accomplish it. Examples include the idea of having small circular photographs of the owners car that can be inserted in the center of wheels, to having custom step magnets for placement on the running boards of that custom coupe to keep people from stepping to get a better look. By collecting all of this information it is obvious that it is the subtle points that distinguish two almost identical carsThe owners that have taken their car show display to the next level have incorporated show boards into their display. The main intent of this board is to provide the viewer with information that the owner considers to be key about the car. The information ranges from the year, make and model, to more specific details about the engine, drive train and chassis. The next major element of the show board is tying it to the car, which is often a picture or pictures. Many boards have a standard layout of a front quarter view on the top, and a rear quarter view on the bottom, or other key element. So the question for you is "Do You Want Your Show Board and Vehicle To Stand Out From The Rest? "I would be surprised if your answer was anything but, YES!As with adding graphics to enhance the paint, or chrome accents under the hood, a show board can be taken to the next level with fantasy pictures. Fantasy pictures could be as simple as a picture of your car overlaid on the engine compartment, or a key element such as the gas cap of that mustang GT. Combining this level of graphics, transforms a show board from just an informational board, to a piece of art completing your display. When you think about creating your show board, do not only think about the text and pictures, but how to make it different from the others. Would you rather go to a restaurant and order items 1, 4, and 8, or talk with the chef and get a meal prepared just for you? You go to the experts for advice on how to enhance your vehicles look and performance, so you should also go to the artistic experts on how to display your vehicle. There are some companies such as www.PalmieriConcepts.com that can help by transforming your everyday pictures into custom art. They have a large selection of examples that I have described above.Anthony Palmieri founded Palmieri Concepts after 20 years of creating custom art work for his own pleasure and enjoyment and grew out of a love for motor vehicles and was started to share with others what grew out of a hobby. After taking how his own pride and joys (yes this really started with family pictures and not cars) and combining them with creativity, it became obvious that many others would like to showcase their trophies as he has done.

Super Exotic Sports Cars - What You Should Know, Before Spending Any Money!

Author : Charlie Cory
Before we start, let's define the term 'super exotic sports cars'. Sports cars, by definition are borderline racing cars; boasting powerful performance and sleek looks. Their prestige makes them expensive, and thus the domain of a select few. With reference to sports cars, the term "exotic" refers to vehicles produced in very limited numbers. This of course increases their exclusivity and by virtue of this, their value. Exotic sports cars will, in all likelihood, be built by smaller manufacturers or perhaps the super high-end vehicles will be created by some of the better-known car companies outside of the United States, as exclusive models. Many exotic sports cars are the stuff of legend. The world's fastest car, the McLaren F1, for instance is a well-known exotic. Although only around one hundred F1s were produced and the manufacturer is not a household name (outside of the Grand Prix circuits of course), the McLarens are coveted sports cars. All exotic sports cars are highly sought after and, as status symbols, are second to none in the sports car world. But, assuming that you can afford it, is an exotic sports car for you?It is easy to be seduced by the allure of owning an exotic sports car. Owning one can be very tempting. Amongst the purists, the cars themselves are often considered the pinnacle of design. Any enthusiast who has the means will tell you that when an opportunity to invest in an exotic sports car presents itself, resistance can be very difficult. One should try and be objective about the proposition though. Before making such a major commitment, there are three factors you should consider.Exotic Sports Cars Are Very ExpenseThe cost of owning such a prestigious car, does not end when you part with the initial payment. Even if one can afford the initial asking price of an exotic (and not many can), one needs to be aware of the likely ongoing running expenses , which can be significant. The maintenance and repair of an exotic car is certain to be expensive compared to non-exotic vehicles and a buyer should attempt to discover what kind of costs he or she is likely to experience in order to keep the car in running order. There can be no cost cutting on parts for these high end vehicles.Parts for prestige cars are likely to be in short supply, if they are available at all. The likelihood that the owners of exotic sports cars will need to have some parts custom made during their ownership of the vehicle is quite high. And the cost will be significant. This is especially true of older exotics, many of which will have been orphaned when their original manufacturer stopped making cars. Not only will this prove extremely expensive, one can also expect it to be time consuming as well. And, as time passes, the necessary investment will only become greater.Your usual mechanic cannot be expected to be able to repair exotic sports cars. You will need specialised mechanics with specialised tools to be able to ensure that appropriate and professional repairs are carried out. Not only will such individuals be, in all probability much more expensive than your usual mechanics, you would be very fortunate if you found one in your town. You should expect to have to do a lot of traveling in order to find suitable mechanical help. All too often a sports car buff will purchase an exotic, without though to the ongoing costs, and, as a consequence be completely unprepared to handle additional future expenses. A thorough planning of expected costs and the means to meet those costs would certainly be in order.Reliability Of High End VehiclesEven though an exotic sports car may represent the ultimate in performance, One cannot assume that it will also be reliable. This will hold particularly true for the older 'classic' exotic cars. As with any high performance machine, exotic sports cars can be quite delicate (temperamental) which will, in all probability, require that you, or someone close to you be regularly on hand to make the adjustments to ensure that the vehicle stays in operating order. Exotic sports cars are well known for the spectacular side of their performance when they running well. However, the other side of the coin is that they are notorious for being among the most temperamental of vehicles that one may encounter. If you plan to run an exotic sports car on a regular basis, you should be prepared for the highs and los of motoring. The sublime feeling of driving a top car with top performance can often be forgotten if the same car stops and refuses to start many miles from any assistance. The Drivability of Exotic CarsMost owners of high performance cars will tell you that such vehicles take 'some getting used too'. Optimum performance comes at a price, and will depend very largely on the skill of the driver. So, if you are relatively inexperienced, then please do not expect to get the best out of your car straight away. This in itself could prove too frustrating for many potentials owners. One should also take into account the relative risk of driving a high performance cars whilst still inexperienced. For those to whom the additional cost of time in learning to drive a prestige car optimally and safely is not an issue, an additional, problem arises in the adjustment of seats and pedals for example. Small things that are irrelevant in normal cars take on much greater significance when applied to exotic sports cars. When considering the purchase of an exotic sports car, one must look past the romance and excitement of owning a legendary vehicle. There are real concerns and obstacles to be overcome before the full enjoyment and benefit of owning such a car can be achieved. The article was written by Charlie Cory, who is the owner of Autos Inclusive. Selling Your Used Car to Get Top Dollars

Author : Deepak Dutta
You are in the market to buy a new car. Your first thought is to trade in your existing one at the dealership. If you do not have any time and you are very comfortable loosing a couple of thousand dollars, go ahead and trade in your existing vehicle at the dealership. If you trade in at the dealership, you don't have to pay a portion of the sales tax, equivalent to the trade-in value of your old car, on your new car. For a $2,000 trade-in, that may be as high as $160 at 8% sales tax rate. But the same $2,000 trade-in car can be sold at $3,000 to a private party if you put some efforts. And that can be a nice chunk of money for a few hours of works. If you have read so far, you must be interested in getting that extra $1,000. Go ahead start your research for the fair market value of your car using edmunds.com. Enter all your available vehicle features and mileage to obtain an accurate number. Take a printout of the page. Now you have all the details of your car at your finger tips and the estimated market value the sellers in your region are willing to pay from a private party sale.Call your local news paper and buy a classified ads in automotive section for one week starting from a Sunday. Some local papers will extend your ad for an additional week for a nominal charge or for free if the vehicle is not sold in one week. Give details like make, model, year, mileage, engine cylinder size, etc. Also check out the online car selling sites like motor zoo.com and car.com. Get the title of your car and keep it in a place you can access it quickly if a prospective buyer wants to buy the car immediately.Take your car to the nearest car wash and give it a through cleaning, both interior and exterior. Remove every thing from the trunk, back seats, and floor. The car should only have floor mats on the floor. Trunk should be completely empty. Secure the spare tire and the jack appropriately. Vacuum the trunk. Use a spot remover to remove spots from seats and trunk carpet if it is possible. Don't spend money fixing the car for any mechanical and electrical repairs, unless it is very minor like replacing the fuse or a bulb etc.. Be honest to the buyer if you have any mechanical or electrical problems with your car. Take the car to a quick oil change place for oil change and topping of other fluids. Most quick oil places will also fill up your anti-freeze, transmission fluids, power steering fluid if you go for their 20, 21 or whatever point inspection. They will also inflate your tires pressure to the recommended level. When prospective buyers call you, answer all questions they might have about your vehicle. Answer them honestly because you want to turn an appointment into a sale. Make appointment at a specific time. don't be vague like "come after work", because your "after work" and the buyer's "after work" may not be the same. Ask the buyer to come during the day and not at night. This may be a problem during the week-days in Winter months when days are shorter but in the Summer it should not be a problem. You can also schedule your appointment during the week-ends in the Winter months. Get the cell phone number of the prospective buyer if it is possible. However, don't get upset if the prospective buyer does not show up or shows up late. Remember that a prospective buyer is your customer and "customer is always right."Before the buyer takes the car for a test drive, check his/her driver's license. You should accompany the buyer during the test drive and direct the buyer to roads you are familiar with. Don't allow him/her to take the car wherever he/she wants. During price negotiation, don't be extremely rigid in your price. Depending on the resale value of your car, you should be able to accept a couple of hundred dollars less than your advertised price. Take only cash; do not take checks or registered checks. If you receive any inquires from prospective buyers to your online advertisement, be very cautious. There are lots of scams going on online. If the online buyer proposes to send you a registered check for more than what you are asking for and tells you to send the difference to a shipping company, than you know it is definitely a scam. The check is forged and they will take your money and run. Have fun with your extra money.Dr. Deepak Dutta is the creator of http://www.SemanticBay.com - an interactive social network website based on user shared text and picture contents. Happy Honda Days, Eh?

Author : Matthew Keegan
I love this time of year! The seasonal music, the lights, manger scenes, and the silly ads on television. No, I am not talking about ads pitching products to put in your stocking or to set under your Christmas tree. Instead, what I like is all the car ads cleverly designed to get you to leave the mall and hit dealer showrooms. There is a lot more then meets the eye when a car ad makes its appearance during the holiday season. It isn't all ho, ho, ho either! Read on and I will tell you what it is all about.Happy Honda Days! Yes, playing on the "Happy Holidays" theme the group of five or six "carolers" singing Honda songs are doing what they can do to get you to buy a new Honda. So, why this pitch and why this time of year? For two reasons: consumers are buying Christmas presents, so purchasing a new car is nowhere near the top of anyone's priorities, and Toyota. Toyota?! Yes, that is right. Toyota and Honda are once again battling for the top spot for the best selling car in America. Long ceded by American automakers who sell more trucks than cars, the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are the two top selling cars. Guess what? December 31st marks the final day that cars sold can be tabulated as 2005 sales. Honda wants you in their showrooms and they want you to buy. Move over, Toyota!Don't think for a moment that Honda is the only manufacturer with a big year end sales drive in place. Virtually all manufacturers are in a race to get you to buy a new car now. Each is hoping that you aren't too busy to watch a little bit of television, listen to the radio, scour the newspaper, or search the internet in hopes that an ad promoting their product will find its way before your eyes. You can't shop all the time, right? Right? To help you out, the following are some of the current campaigns already under way and the brand they are touting:December to Remember; LexusToyotathon; ToyotaMiles of Freedom Plan; DodgeKeep It Simple; Ford, Lincoln, MercuryRed Tag Sale; GMA to Z Year End Event; NissanThe Cadillac Season's Best Sales Event; CadillacWinter Event; MercedesThere is no telling what other sales events are being planned. By the time the new year rolls in, you are likely to be as sick of them as you will be of all the tinsel, the egg nog, and your 47th viewing of "A Christmas Story."Happy holidays to you and yours; Happy Honda Days if you are choose to purchase a new car during this already overstressed time of the year!Matt Keegan is a contributing writer for the

Let Hydraulics Stop Your Car!

Author : James Monahan
Hydraulics is a branch of engineering science which is concerned with the mechanical properties of liquids and the general power of fluids. It is also focused mainly on the engineering uses of fluid properties. Hydraulics, therefore, derived its theoretical foundation fluid mechanics. Hydraulics spans a vast scope of topics, ranging from science to engineering disciplines.Among the concepts it covers include dam designs, turbines, pumps, circuitry, pipe flow, hydropower, river channel behavior and erosion.Machineries using the principles of hydraulics include bulldozers, backhoes, forklifts, cranes, and shovel loaders. Hydraulics is also the reason why we see cars being lifted in service centers so that technicians can work beneath them.It is also because of this same technique that elevators operate. Airplane surfaces are operated and controlled by hydraulics, and even the brakes in our cars use hydraulics. The idea behind hydraulic systems is simple. It states that force applied at a point gets transmitted to the next point with the use of an incompressible fluid, which is usually a type of oil. In the process, the force is being multiplied. In a simple hydraulic system, two pistons are connected by a pipe which is filled by oil. These pistons are installed into two glass cylinders which are filled with oil. The glass cylinders are then connected to each other by a pipe filled with oil. When force is applied to one piston, the force is transferred to the next piston through the oil in the pipe. Because oil cannot be compressed, the efficiency is very good because all of the force applied shows in the second piston. The pipe which connects the cylinders can also come in any length, shape and size, so it can bend, twist, or turn through all the things separating the two pistons. This pipe can also be a fork, which simply means that one master cylinder can drive one or more slave cylinders. In hydraulics, it is very important that the system eliminates air bubbles. The presence of air bubbles in the system affects its efficiency as the force being applied to a piston compresses the air in the bubble rather than transferring it to the second piston. The brakes in a car are the simplest example of piston-driven hydraulic system. As the brake pedal is pressed down, it pushes the piston in the brake's master cylinder. This action drives four slave pistons to push the brake pads towards the brake rotor so the car stops. The force coming from your leg is not enough to stop the car, so car multiples the force. This is called hydraulic multiplication. In most cars today, there are two master cylinders driving two lave cylinders each. This design allows the car to brake or stop even if there is problem in the first brake, or if there is an oil leak. In other hydraulic systems, valves connect cylinders and pistons to a pump which supplies high-pressure oil. The valve applies forward and backward force to the pistons. You can see large hydraulic machines in construction sites. These machines, driven by hydraulic power include excavators, skidloaders (also known as the "bobcat", because it was the name given by its first manufacturers), and dump trucks. When you see these machines, remember that despite their enormous sizes, the common force driving them comes from hydraulics.James Monahan is the owner and Senior Editor of

How to Get a Moving Truck Rental: A Beginner's Guide

Author : John Mancini
In a world where many people own smaller vehicles and larger homes, moving truck rentals have become a popular choice when it comes time to relocate belongings to a new home or office. There are some things that you should know, however, that will make the experience more enjoyable for everyone involved. Before you agree to rent a truck, inspect it. The rental company will have a standard form for you to fill out. While doing the inspection, look for things such as dents, scratches and rust. Be sure to check out the latches and locks on the doors as well. By documenting the items wrong with the truck before you rent it will mean that you won't be charged for the damage later. At the time of rental, you will need to show certain personal documents. These will include a driver's license, your personal proof of insurance and a major credit card. These documents are needed to prove that you are of legal age to rent the truck (usually 25), that you have personal auto accident insurance available, and that they can secure payment from you.Today's technology makes it easier than every to reserve a moving truck. It is possible to do almost all of your research and to make reservations either online or over the phone. While this technology can make doing business easier, it is always a wise decision to actually speak with the company that you want to do business with face to face. This will help to avoid any misunderstandings.Depending upon the size of the moving truck rental, you need and where you are traveling, you may need to stop at weigh stations along the way. It's best to ask the rental company if they have any knowledge of the truck being big enough for this requirement. Also, call the state police in all the states you will be traveling through to get the specific requirements for each state.Shop around and inquire about prices and specials as well as other options that may be offered to you when you rent a moving truck. Look for a company that has high standards for their trucks as well as their towing equipment, this may be more expensive, but worth it in the long run. Ask if the company offers unlimited mileage, if not, find out how much extra miles will cost you.Lastly, before you drive off the rental lot with your moving truck, you will need to get copies of all of the important documents from the rental company. These could include the rental agreement, a driver trip report, a truck inspection sheet and any other paperwork that the rental company suggests. Check to be sure that the proof of insurance and the registration are also in the truck.John Mancini has been writing about truck rental online and offline for a long time. Alternative Fuel Vehicles and How Not to Advertise Them

Author : C Judge
If I asked you to name the least trustworthy figures in the American landscape these days I bet politicians would rank high on the list. I would also wager a tidy sum that corporate execs would not be far behind. It seems like most things, a few bad ones can really muck up a good thing. Maybe todays high priced CEO's deserve our scorn and maybe they don't. It doesn't matter much. We all seem to think they're a bit shadier now than we used to. The execs know it too. Ask Martha. That's partly why I was completely baffled by the new "Eco-ad" campaign the Ford folks have begun. They've managed to take a corporate exec and make him look like a politician. Brilliant!Photo of adWith the difficulty domestic manufacturers are having with ever stricter café standards and EPA regulations, coupled with rapidly increasing foreign competition, this is the most compelling stuff Ford has to buy their eco-products; a corporate exec, in the politicians pose, lecturing his voters, I mean customers? If so, Sayonara!Buying a car, any car, is an emotional experience. Especially these hybrid wind up toys this ad is supposed to be selling. The verdict is coming in rapidly that these vehicles simply don't deliver economically or ecologically as first promised. Yet people continue to stand in line to pay an 8 grand premium for 20% better fuel economy. You would need to drive 60,000 miles to begin to break even. Never mind resale value. In 5 or 6 years when these cars are no longer a novelty, who will be willing to spend 15k for an 80,000 mile used economy car when new ones are $20k? I'm not trying to argue for or against these cars. Others have already done that. My focus is on the marketing. People buy a Prius or Insight because it makes them feel better about themselves. They think they're doing their part to make the world better. If it were purely a cerebral decision most of us would be driving used Accords or Vespas. People want to feel good about their cars and the reasons they bought them. The only thing this ad makes you feel is sleepy.I'm sure Mr. Ford is a very nice man. But either ego or bad advice created this mess, not sound marketing. CEO's can be terrific spokespeople, but you never saw Dave Thomas without a hamburger, The Colonel always stood behind a bucket of original recipe, and Iacoca always had a Caravan or K-car behind him. Without the products, they're just goofy looking vacuum cleaner salesmen. No offense Mr. Orek.
What's the point here? Proving Ford is concerned about the environment and committed to being Green? Who cares! Corporations should focus on achieving better profits through superior products and do it ethically. Ford should work on getting the cost down on these Eco-cars, make 'em fun to drive, and make 'em go like stink. Put the actual cars back in the ads instead of a stuffed shirt who inherited an empire and they'll sell the cars.In the mean time, the domestics should invest their alternative fuel and hybrid energies in the fleet and commercial market where it makes sense. If private and government fleet operators were the audience, this campaign would make complete sense. If Ford offered superior alternative fuel commercial trucks and fleet vehicles that are subject to high mileage or were prone to stop and go use, and got the government to allow tax savings for purchasing them, they wouldn't be able to keep up with demand. A fleet manager or operator would be able to recoup his investment in a year or two instead of a decade. How many barrels of oil would be saved yearly if Police cars across the country idled on propane or CNG instead of gasoline? Why aren't all Fedex and UPS trucks Hybrids? That would allow the technology to be produced in a volume large enough to bring the cost down for the consumer market. For me, I'll buy a hybrid vehicle the day after the government delivers my tax credit in an electric Jeep.C Judge is a veteran of the commercial truck business and currently owns Work Truck Warehouse

US vs Them

Author : David Atkin
After working on cars for years, in body shops and mechanical shops, I have learned a few things, and no matter how I try I can't seem to get a head on the American vs. import battle, so I have to talk a little about that subject, both American and import have their place in the scheme of things. So with that in mind let's talk about this whole idea of them vs. us, as you know I am a big supporter of the American car, be it new or old, and nothing will change that, so let's get this thing going, and we can have some fun here. It's just ridiculous to compare apples to oranges, but we all seem to do it when it comes to cars, I've been in internet battles about this subject many times, and I am not a trained debate expert, I just speak on what I believe in about the automotive industry. With that in mind people still think that it's a must to battle me and try to change my ways on this subject, so they respond to my blog comments, with personal put downs, and I respond with numbers and facts, I put up specs on the cars, and clips from articles that I have read on the subject, I constantly study on this subject.Cars are my life, and my reason for living, I love them, I love the old ones, and the new ones, I even like imports, but I do not think that they have us out done in any way, the latest battle that I have been in about this subject has shown me one thing.People need to study on a subject just a bit more before trying to battle a person who has heard every argument in the book about it, the import market as far as Germany is really cosentrating on the upper end market in our country, and they do a good job at reaching those people, they build a good product, that has good last ability, and they even build a decent looking car. They certainly don't build a better car then we do, and they aren't years a head of our car companies with automotive technology, look at Chrysler, GM & Ford, they are constantly coming up with new ideas to build a better car, that gets more economy and still makes good power, and they do a very good job of it.Now the import companies that sell to our country are doing the same things with their cars, but keep in mind, for a comparable car from the import companies, you will spend more money for the same car, and there's no doubt about that, but for the most part the imports are trying to sell their product to the upper middle class, and above, and they do a very good job of it, they build a good car at a reasonable price for this class of people. While most of the American manufactures are selling to the middle class sector, and the upper middle class as well, with the exception of Cadillac and Lincoln, who with out a doubt are working the upper end of things, and they do a very good job of reaching their market also, they build a quality product that also looks good, and has class and style about it, but in comparison, you'd spend a lot more money the same BMW or Mercedes. With that said it comes down to not who is better, but who sells their cars in a better manor, the American companies have the trust of our loyal American people, and the European companies have the trust of the European American people, and there are a lot of them here, but this whole battle of who does it better is just getting redundant and really has no cause, other then to raise a few eyebrows of the people who are really concerned about these subjects. While it does concern me that people in the USA are getting less loyal to products built in our country, this has been coming for a long time, and while people just like to argue these days, with no real basis, and really have no idea about what they are arguing on, it's no wonder that our country is in a recession, if you want to help our country, then buy things that are built here, and keep the cash flowing in our country, otherwise don't whine about it.

In the eternal search for cheaper fuels, and a way to eliminate the use of fossil fuel from our environment, some clever researchers have come up with a way of making your own biodiesel fuel. But while it is often promoted as something you can "make at home", there are a number of things to consider, first.Biodiesel if made from vegetable oils or animal fast, or a combination of both. The most prevalent is SVO, or straight vegetable oil. And while you can "make" it at home, few households have the base product in a large enough quantity to be of any use in a motor vehicle. However, some companies are now turning to the recycling of oils from restaurant, bakery and other deep fryers, collecting it in massive tanks to be blended and re-sold as a bioldiesel fuel. Technically, it can be done at home, but the logistics of acquiring that much oil, mixing and storing it, is the main problem. For example, to make SVO from restaurant oil, known as WVO or waste vegetable oil, you must dewater, filter and deacidify it.On the plus side, many people have been making their own biodiesel fuel for years. Consider that an average household uses about 600 gallons of gas a year. That can cost you upwards of $1700, depending on the markets. But the simple ingredients used to process biodiesel, including such things as lye, are cheap and easily available. Your end cost after production expenses, is about one-quarter of fossil fuel.So if you're concerned with the environment and your pocketbook, by all means, do some research on making bioldiesel, starting with all clean products, to eliminate the cleaning and storage of waste oils. You may just find that with biodiesel, you're really cooking!Visit http://www.learnhowtomakeit.com for instructions on how to make just about anything you can think of.

What You Should Know About Thrifty Car Rental

Author : Christopher Luck
What should you know about Thrifty Car Rental before you use them to get your next rental? I always like to know a little about a company before I use them. When it comes to car rentals, I have always enjoyed Thrifty Car Rental as far as a provider. However, before you use them for your next rental; it might be nice if you knew a little bit about the company and what they do. Knowing more about them might make you just that much more comfortable with using them for your car rental needs.
Thrifty Car Rental bills itself as a value-oriented car rental company that is available both in airports and in local car rental markets. The big difference between Thrifty Car Rental and their major competitors is that Thrifty's competitors focus almost exclusively on the airport market. In the U.S., roughly 66% of Thrifty Car Rental's business is in the airport market, 34% is in the local market.
As part of their airport market service, Thrifty Car Rental operates "in terminal" in every major airport in both Canada and Australia, and in 85 major airport locations in the United States, with the rest of its airport rental centers off of but near the airport grounds. Thrifty Car Rental is also located in-terminal in almost every major city in the Caribbean, and Central and South America where Thrifty has a solid presence. Thrifty Car Rental also has locations throughout the Middle East. Thrifty Truck Rental is an ancillary business and has a large number of locations as well.
Historically, Thrifty Car Rental and other departments have used a strategy to become a major global brand; In 2002, though, the company elected to shift to operating some of their major U.S. markets through the corporation. Now, more than 80% of the retail locations in North America are franchised (and over 90% around the world are), owned by independent businesses that are licensed to use Thrifty's name, systems and technologies. Each such location must maintain certain strict standards in facilities and their service. From their corporate headquarters, Thrifty centralizes travel agent commission payments and operates from its headquarters travel agent and consumer inquiry departments, each with toll free numbers.
As you can see, Thrifty Car Rental is a well put together and historically reliable company. If you are anything like me, you probably feel more comfortable with a company once you know a little more about them overall. Thrifty Car Rental has always been a good company for getting you a car at a good price. You can find them in town or at the airport and that makes them convenient as well. So for your next vacation or business trip, go ahead and give Thrifty Car Rental a shot. You will be glad you did.If you would like to view more of my articles on car rental, please feel free to visit my car rental guide website!

Frequently Asked Questions About Catalytic Converters

Author : J Freeman
Choosing the right catalytic converter for your car is increasingly recognised as one of the most important decisions you will make when maintaining your car. Whether you are looking to maximise performance, minimise fuel consumption or do your bit for the environment getting the right catalytic converter for you will save time, money and avoid the headaches of failing an MoT.Here are some frequently asked questions about catalytic converters:Why should I have a catalytic converter? If your car was fitted after 1st August 1992 with a catalytic converter from new, you need to have one for the MoT. It needs to be in good working order to comply with the Government's emissions legislation. The engine has been designed to work with a Cat and besides giving out toxic emissions, the performance will be reduced if your Cat is not working properly. You will fail the annual MoT if either it is not present or it is not in good working order. Can I remove my Cat? If your car was registered after 1st August 1992 you must have the Cat present and working for the MoT. Previously registered cars can have the Cat permanently removed. Why do people want to remove their Cats? Without a Cat the engine gives more power and reduced petrol consumption. You may remove the Cat for track / competition / display use, for example. Why might my Cat fail? Road Damage
The outside of the cat can be damaged by hitting solid objects in the road. ie, speed bumps, large rocks etc.Plugged or contaminated
Plugged or contaminated catalytic converters are caused by the wrong sort of fuel in your car. Using leaded or lead replacement fuel will plug up the monolith and cause it to stop working. A similar thing will happen if fuel additives are used that are not suitable for use with a catalytic converter.Melted / Broken substrate
A monolith is usually broken when it is impacted by an object or when it suffers a sudden change in temperature. If the catalytic converter suffers road damage (See section on road damage) the monolith inside can be cracked due to it being crushed by the movement on the steel can.The use of exhaust paste before the catalytic converter can cause the monolith to break. When the exhaust paste has hardened, small pellets may break away and shoot into the catalytic converter. The monolith will gradually be destroyed by these pellets and break down. The catalytic converter can also be damaged by excessive engine vibration. Another possible cause of a fractured monolith is a sudden temperature change. (See number 7 in "Caring for your Catalytic Converter")The monolith can be melted when unburned fuel is injected into the catalytic converter. This can be caused by the car being bump or tow started, or if the car's engine requires several turns before firing. More information can be found on this is the section on "Overheating".Overheating
There are many problems that can cause a catalytic converter to overheat or fail. The most common cause is unburned fuel entering the catalytic converter. Also faulty spark plugs and leads will cause the engine to misfire and ruin the catalytic converter. It will also be damaged if the distributor timing is out.Oxygen Sensor - An oxygen sensor collects and sends information to the Electronic Control Unit. This is used to control the fuel/air mix. If the oxygen sensor is faulty, or it has been contaminated with silicone from anti-freeze or sealant, he fuel/air mixture will not be corrected and excess fuel will enter the catalytic converter, causing it to overheat.Fuel injection systems - If a fuel injector is leaking internally or dribbling fuel into the engine the catalytic converter may be damaged. The excess fuel will enter the exhaust system and cause it to overheat. Due to the varying fuel injector systems the proper manual should always be consulted when trying to diagnose a problem.Map Sensors - Map sensors tell the Electronic Control Unit the load on the engine and the amount of air entering it. If this sensor fails it causes a rich condition in the engine, which can overheat the catalytic converter causing it to fail.Carburettor systems - A worn or defective carburettor can cause a catalytic converter to overheat. Problems such as improper float or air/fuel mix adjustments and worn metering rods can damage the catalytic converter. The choke system also needs to be operating properly so the right level of fuel enters the system. If too much fuel enters the system it will overheat and eventually fail.Canister Purge Valve Control - This vacuum operated valve vents fuel vapour from the carburettor bowl to the charcoal canister. If the vacuum is breached the charcoal canister will flood, causing the air/fuel mixture to become very rich. This will cause the catalytic converter to overheat and break down.Noisy
A catalytic converter should not be considered to be a silencer although it does have some silencing qualities. Noise can be caused by excessive fuel getting into the catalytic converter. What happens if my Cat fails? If a catalyst fails it can block and the car will break down. What does my Cat do? Catalytic converters are specialist environmentally friendly devices fitted in the exhausts of vehicles which ensure that hydrocarbons are burnt off and that minimise the emission of harmful pollutants. Cars fitted with converters can use only unleaded petrol as the lead in leaded fuel poisons the converter and irreparably damages it.Car manufacturers have ruled out the retrofitting of catalytic converters on older cars, saying that it could irreparably damage the converter, as vehicles which have been using leaded fuel for many years have lead deposits in their engines. On fitting with a catalytic converter, these deposits could poison the Cat and damage it permanently.Unleaded fuel, when burnt, produces gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and oxides of nitrogen, the latter three can be poisonous or carcinogenic. A Catalytic Converter, which is working correctly, creates a chemical reaction between these gases, which converts them to relatively harmless gases. It is critical for the environment that you have your Catalytic converter checked regularly to ensure it is functioning properly.Catalytic converters fitted to vehicles can reduce toxic emissions (e.g. Carbon Monoxide, NO2, HC) by up to 90%. Catalytic converters do not reduce CO2 emissions. Can I fit a Cat to a car which doesn't have one? If your engine ran on leaded petrol you cannot. The old deposits will poison the Cat.How can I best care for my Cat? There are several things you can do to ensure your 'cat' has a long and healthy life. When fitting the catalytic converter, don't use exhaust paste in front of the cat. When the exhaust paste hardens it can break off in chunks and damage the monolith. Paste can also block the monolith.Always use the correct fuel for your car.Never use a fuel additive without first reading the instructions to find out if it is suitable for use with a catalytic converter. If in doubt, contact the manufacturer of the additive.Never attempt to bump or tow start your car. This causes unburned fuel to be injected into the catalytic converter, which makes the monolith overheat and melt.Never tow anything that is too heavy for your vehicle to cope with. For example, an overloaded caravan will actually push a car along when it travels downhill. This sends unburned fuel into the exhaust system and can cause the monolith to melt down.Have your car regularly serviced to your car makers specifications. In particular, make sure the engine is running properly. A poorly tuned engine can cause the monolith to break down or become covered in soot, which stops it working regularly.Take care when driving through deep puddles, fords or parking when there has been heavy snowfall. The catalytic converter operates at an extremely high temperature, and when it comes into direct contact with water or snow it cools down more rapidly than the monolith, and in extreme circumstances the monolith can be crushed as the steel shell contracts.Don't park your car over long grass or anything similar. As the catalytic converter operates at such a high temperature it can actually set the grass on fire!Drive slowly over speed bumps or very bumpy roads to reduce the chance of the exhaust system being grounded. This could cause impact damage to the catalytic converters.About The Author: Topgear have depots all over the country and run an extensive online shop selling car tyres, alloy wheels, stainless steel exhausts, catalytic converters and more. Carburetor Kits

Author : Eric Morris
The carburetor is one of the most important parts in automobile engines. The carburetor ensures that there is the right mix of gasoline and air in the engine so that the engine functions correctly. Too much air or too much gasoline in the mixture causes damage to the engine, so a carburetor is very important in all stages of the engine functioning. Carburetors are generally found in old cars and in small engine automobiles like 2-wheelers, lawn mowers, and chain saws. All new cars use the fuel injection technique instead of carburetors because of its low emission levels and fuel efficiency.A carburetor is just a tube with an adjustable plate called the throttle placed across it. This throttle controls the amount of air that flows through the tube. The carburetor tube narrows down at a place called the venture, where a vacuum is created. There is a hole in this narrowing called the jet that allows the fuel to be drawn in because of the vacuum. There are several parts in a carburetor that allow for smooth functioning. They are the pilot, pilot airscrew, throttle valve, jet needle, needle jet, air jet, and main jet.Carburetor kits are a complete set of carburetor parts that can be easily assembled and placed in an engine. These kits are pre-tested and pre-jetted. Most carburetor kits contain parts for replacing broken down parts within the carburetor. They can be customized to fit the exact model of the carburetor. There are carburetor kits available for Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and Norton bikes. Carburetor kits are very important since very few cars and bikes use carburetors these days so carburetor kits help to keep old Harley-Davidson engine running, for example. Though all carburetors are not the same, there are some common makes of carburetors for which kits are readily available at automotive dealers' stores. Kits for specialized carburetors are available at specialty automotive stores. There are several websites on the Internet that contain information about carburetor rebuilding. These sites also provide carburetor rebuild kits for many car models including pickup trucks, SUVs, vans, and recreational vehicles. These kits can be ordered online and are usually shipped on the same day. They also provide professional support by technicians who would take a look at the engine and help to decide the best carburetor kit for rebuilding the carburetor.Carburetors provides detailed information about carburetors, carburetor parts, carburetor tuning, and more. Carburetors is affiliated with Car Transport.

Hybrid Cars

Author : Holly Odom
There are many reasons why people should drive electric hybrid cars. They are safer for the environment than gasoline engines. They also are more fuel efficient, and cost less money to operate than a gasoline powered car. However, they also cost a little more to purchase than a similar gasoline powered car, and because they are so new it is hard to find any inexpensive used models. They also do not burn less fuel when being operated at highway speeds. Since the biggest consumers of gas and the biggest polluters are tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles, the use of electric hybrid cars will make only a small dent in cleaning up the environment.
It is frequently advertised that electric hybrid cars are good for the environment. This is because they use less gasoline than regular combustion engines. They emit far less pollution than a regular car because at least part of the time they run on electricity which is a much cleaner form of energy than gasoline. If everyone drove an electric hybrid car, the environment would be a much cleaner place. Problems like smog and the hole in the ozone layer could be fixed.Hybrid cars are also good for the environment not only because they are preventing pollution, but because they are using up less of our natural resources. It has been shown that if we continue to use oil at the rate we are presently using it, it will not be long before there is no oil left. However, with electric hybrid cars we can use less oil. In this way electric hybrid cars conserve our natural resources and prevent an oil shortage from occurring.Another good reason to drive an electric hybrid car is because they can save their drivers a lot of money. Electric hybrid cars use far less fuel than gasoline powered engines. Their owners save money because they do not need to buy gas as much. The cars produce their own electricity. The cars operate on a combination of gas and electricity. When the motor is being powered by electricity it is not burning gas. Owners of hybrid cars can spend half as much or more on gas as people who own similarly sized gasoline powered cars. This is a very big selling point at this point in time because gas prices keep getting more expensive. There are several reasons why not everyone is running out and buying electric hybrid cars even though they sound so great. At the present time, these cars cost a little more than similarly sized gasoline cars. For most people, price is very important when it comes to purchasing a vehicle. Many cannot afford to buy a new car, and buy used cars instead. Since electric hybrid cars are a relatively new invention there are very few used ones available, and most of those are not very inexpensive. Right now, there are not many choices available to buyers of hybrid cars. Those who desire minivans, SUVs, or pickup trucks need to buy gasoline powered cars for now until hybrid versions of these vehicles become available. While it may seem that the use of electric hybrid cars could really clean up the environment, there are a few things that people need to be aware of. At present the hybrid cars that are available are better on gas and better on the environment only when they are being driven in town or at a slower rate of speed. The technology that exists at present has not produced a car than can run solely on electricity at highway speeds. This means that when a hybrid car is driven at sixty miles per hour it is running on gasoline and burning just as much fuel as an ordinary gasoline powered engine. Also the technology has not yet produced a hybrid engine suitable for tractor trailers or other large commercial vehicles which represent some of the biggest polluters and consumers of gas.If every family owned just one electric hybrid vehicle it could significantly help the environment by creating less pollution and using less gasoline. Families who can afford these cars can save themselves money on gasoline. However, this technology is new and there are still several areas in which the hybrid car can be improved so that it could have an even bigger positive impact on the environment and the people who drive them.Holly Odom is a freelance writer working for essaymart.com - on line Custom Writing/Research company.
